Recruiting Students: 2015 and beyond

Mike Glover, Academic Registrar with Dr Brooke Storer-Church, HEFCE and Dr Michelle Meadows, OfqualThis conference held on 25 September 2014 brought together staff across the institution who have an involvement with or interest in recruiting students.

Staff heard from keynote speakers Michelle Meadows (Ofqual) and Brooke Storer-Church (HEFCE) about issues which will challenge the University’s ambitions for student recruitment in the future: changes to A-level and GCSEs might affect the patterns of take-up of particular subjects and subsequently university subject choice; and the continuing decline in demand for postgraduate study from students in the UK.

The conference, organised by the Student Admissions and Recruitment Office, provided an opportunity for academic and professional services colleagues with an involvement in marketing, admissions and student recruitment to share information about the University’s recruitment performance in 2014, service developments, and approaches to future challenges. It was a great success with around 200 delegates attending: many more than anticipated. Feedback has been very positive, with 80% of respondents rating the conference as Excellent or Good overall, and with almost universal support for it becoming an annual event.

If you were unable to attend but have an interest in admissions and recruitment you can view the presentations.
