Study at the University of Tokyo - AIKOM exchange scheme

The University of Tokyo is offering a one-year exchange visit for one Warwick undergraduate as part of its AIKOM - Abroad in Komaba - student exchange programme.

tokyo_uni_logo.gifThe University of Tokyo is Japan's most prestigious institution, with a special place in most aspects of Japanese affairs. The University of Tokyo at Komaba is located in west-central Tokyo. Warwick is the only British university to be invited to join this exchange scheme, which is a product of the Japanese government's internationalisation policies.

The scheme provides a unique opportunity to explore, experience, and learn about Japan over a 10 to 12 month exchange. AIKOM is designed to provide upper-division undergraduates from around the globe with an exciting learning experience in the company of superbly trained professors and active, highly motivated students from all over Japan.

The exchange is open to any Warwick undergraduate of any nationality (other than a Japanese national) who is in their 2nd year at the time of applying, or in their 3rd year of a 4 year degree course, regardless of department or course.

Further details

  • The exchange will run from October 2014 for a full academic year, with the option to stay on for the summer vacation, July/August 2015.
  • No prior knowledge of Japanese language is needed: only a genuine interest in learning Japanese (on a structured course) and in taking Japanese language classes for beginners and courses in the English medium on contemporary Japan, Japanese culture and society.
  • Guaranteed accommodation in a university hall of residence in Tokyo will be provided at a subsidised rate.

The closing date for applications and reference submission for AIKOM 2014/15 exchange is 4pm on Friday 31 January 2014.
