Warwick Undergraduate Internship Programme (WUIP)

Administrative teams are invited to propose job descriptions for eight-week centrally-funded internships as part of this year’s Warwick Undergraduate Internship Programme (WUIP).

The programme is funded by the Registrar’s Office and administered by Student Careers and Skills. It offers approximately 10 penultimate year undergraduate students the chance to compete for one of a range of summer placement opportunities within Warwick’s administration, providing valuable project resources and short-term supervisory experience for staff in host departments.

The internships will take place from Monday 4 August to Friday 26 September.

Internship proposals are invited from any administrative department. Internships have been located in in various areas in previous years including the Library, Academic Registrar’s Office, LDC, the Estates Office and the Communications Office.

How to apply...

Proposals should be prepared as a job description and person specification and returned to placementlearning at warwick dot ac dot uk by 11am on Thursday 10 April, using the template provided. A small panel will select the final suite of internships to be put forward to students based on the following merits:

  • Delivers genuine insight into the challenges and rewards of working in higher education administration, combining specific experience with a wider awareness of the sector
  • Gives interns the opportunity to network, perform and achieve recognition as University colleagues, distinct from their prior experience as a student
  • Provides a defined project or project(s) that require(s) the intern to take ownership over delivery against an agreed timeline, with appropriate supervision
  • Provides a well-supported and appropriately managed learning opportunity that includes a defined set of placement objectives
  • Ensures that all interns are given the opportunity to recognise, prepare for and reflect articulately on these opportunities, through support from the Placement Learning Unit

The current mini-site provides students with details of the general nature of the scheme and offers them the opportunity to register their interest and be notified when available internships are confirmed.

There are specific resources for host departments, outlining responsibilities as well as support available. The Placement Learning Unit is also happy to advise on job descriptions and person specifications as needed via placementlearning at warwick dot ac dot uk, ext: 51882.

Selection of students will take place in late April and final interviews will be held in week four. Host departments are asked to provide two panel members for their internship’s interviews.
