Brief Encounter - Gareth Wright

Gareth Wright is the Publicity Co-ordinator for the Learning and Development Centre which provides staff development opportunities for all staff at the University. His role involves promoting the varied staff development workshops and courses offered by the Centre.

When my old boss used to like something she would declare ‘Let’s take it up the agenda’!

Don’t really have one, but I hate the word ‘flakey’…?

The people.

Worst thing about working at Warwick

Too many people! We provide staff development to all staff, over 4000 people.

If you could change one thing in the University overnight, what would it be?

Introduce 4 day weeks.

As a young child what did you want to be as a "grown-up"?

Superhero.

Now that you are grown-up what would be your "dream job"?

To earn a living making music.

Lifelong ambition

To see the earth from outerspace.

Any hidden talents?

None I can mention here…

People are always surprised to learn this about me, but...

I was in a covers band playing keyboards as a teenager and we supported Shawaddywaddy!

What has life's experience taught you so far?

Hangovers get worse with age.

Which person inspires you most, and why?

Many people inspire me, but I would have to say my grandad who ran a successful business as a self employed Draughtsman for over 30 years and was a very kind well liked gentleman!

Your all-time favourite record or piece of music?

Very difficult as it changes daily, usually something by my favourite band ‘Curve’ but today I’ll go with the Star Wars theme.
