Bursaries for Erasmus Students in Memory of Enrico Galvani

The family of Enrico Galvani, an Erasmus student who studied at Warwick and sadly passed away before the start of last academic year, have set up a scholarship fund for Erasmus students in memory of him.

Two bursaries have been created – a bursary of €1,800 for an Erasmus student wishing to study at Warwick and a bursary of €1,000 for an Erasmus student to study anywhere in the UK.

Dan Persaud, Director of Student Support, attended the first award ceremony for the new scholarship fund on Friday 4 June along with Dr. Loredana Polezzi of the Department of Italian Studies. At the ceremony, he read out a message from the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nigel Thrift.

Professor Thrift's message highlighted the value of international study, and praised Enrico, saying:

"Studying in another country is an amazing opportunity but we must never forget what it demonstrates about the person who chooses to do it. It demonstrates a thirst for knowledge, the capacity to develop, the courage to try, the openness to experience and the resilience to succeed. These were attributes that Enrico brought with him to Warwick and would have underpinned his time here."

In addition to the launch of the bursary, Enrico's parents visited the University last year, planting a tree on campus in memory of him.
