First year German Studies students James Brown and Victoria Johansson, were recently awarded the Zoe Russell Prize for Most Improved Language Competence. The Prize, worth £200 per annum, is awarded to the undergraduate student(s) within the Department of German Studies who demonstrates the best improvement in their German language competence during their first year of study.

The prize was established in 2003 by the parents of Zoe Russell, a German and Business Studies student who, sadly, died that year. Her parents felt strongly about creating a prize in her memory as she had greatly enjoyed her time at Warwick.

Last year, Mr and Mrs Russell donated a further sum of money in order to endow the prize in perpetuity – ensuring Zoe’s name and the Prize will be familiar to German Studies students of today and tomorrow.
