Professor Mark. P. Taylor, from the Department of Economics, and Managing Director of the Global Marketing Strategy Group at Barclays Global Investors, has been awarded the title of 2007 Active Currency Manager of the Year by Global Pensions Magazine.

Mark Taylor is a leading international authority in open economy macroeconomics and international finance and is Professor of Macroeconomics at Warwick.

Previously a Fellow of University College,Oxford, he has also held chairs at Cass Business School, at Liverpool University and at Dundee University, and has been a Visiting Professor at New York University. He was also a Senior Economist at the International Monetary Fund, Washington DC, for five years and an Economist at the Bank of England, and began his career as a foreign exchange dealer in the City of London.

Although his research interests are broad, he has a particular interest in empirical work on exchange rates and has made a number of important contributions in this area. He has most recently published work on the presence of nonlinearity in real and nominal exchange rate movements, on the long-run behaviour of real exchange rates, on the effectiveness of official foreign exchange market intervention and on the microstructural effects of European Central Bank interest rate announcements.

Other recent projects include analyses of the nature and determinants of international capital flows to emerging markets, an analysis of exchange rate forecasting in the presence of nonlinearity, empirical analyses of financial crisis contagion and aspects of foreign exchange market microstructure.

He completed his first degree at Oxford University and also holds MSc and PhD degrees in economics from London University. His recreations include theoretical and practical horology (an expert on English antique clocks), languages (French, Spanish and Russian), and literature, and he also holds a Master's degree in English literature from the University of Liverpool.
