Dr Matei Bolborea, a Research Fellow in Life Sciences, is to receive the French Society of Neuroendocrinology and Servier 2013 award for his work as a young researcher in neurosciences.

Matei started his career in neuroscience in 2006 with his thesis on ‘Seasonal cerebral plasticity in two hamster species: the Djungarian hamster (Phodopus sungorus) and the Syrian hamster (Mesocricetus auratus)’ at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hanover, Germany and University of Strasbourg, France. This was followed by a postdoc at the University of Nottingham and the University of Aberdeen on the ‘Role of tanycytes cells and thyroid hormones in the photoperiodic adaption of the Djungarian hamster (Phodopus sungorus) and of the rat’.

Matei is currently working on 'The contribution of tanycyte signalling to the function of hypothalamic networks' in the lab of Professor Nicholas Dale at Warwick.

The award will be presented at the 39th Meeting of the French Society of Neuroendocrinology in Fes, Morocco in September 2013.
