My Warwick Life: Aparajita Roy Chowdhury

aparajita r-cThe My Warwick Life feature gives an insight into staff and students’ lives at Warwick, considering both their work and social life on campus. This week we hear from Aparajita Roy Chowdhury, first-year Law student.

I applied to study at Warwick because…

I wanted to study law at a top UK institution, one with a strong community feel where I would be able to meet students from all over the world.

After finishing my degree at Warwick, I’d like to…

complete my Legal Practitioner’s Course (LPC) and secure a training contract with a commercial law firm in the City.

On a typical day, you’ll find me …

at lectures in the morning around the social sciences area before stopping for lunch at one of the SU outlets (Xananas is my favourite!) or cafes around campus. After that I meet friends near my accommodation, Arthur Vick, and then - depending on the workload - either head to the library to study, or out to the Terrace Bar or into Leamington for a night out!

I’m really glad I got involved with…

One World Week this year, because there were so many events ranging from forums to parties. There was something to cater to everyone’s tastes and it was a great way to meet others while celebrating our cultural differences. I was involved with the Fashion Show this year, which was done on a large-scale, and I enjoyed the experience so much that next year I am the Deputy Head of Nights for the festival – I'm now looking forward to organising all the Nights events!

I recently attended an open day with other Warwick Law Society members …

at Clifford Chance, one of the top international commercial law firms. It was useful as it gave me an insight into what I may be doing after completing my degree, and I was able to network with current employees at the firm and learn about what I needed to do in order to present myself well as a potential candidate to be employed at such a firm.

I've only just realised that…

the Warwick Arts Centre is one of the largest in the nation and that it offers all kinds of events – not just plays and music recitals. I look forward to watching a few shows by some of the best theatre companies there in the near future and hopefully a few international acts as well! Also, I’ve only recently realised that the university has a large field near my accommodation which is perfect for barbeques on a (good) summer day.

Warwick’s unique because…

the campus life promotes a community feel and makes it possible for us to meet new people everyday. Also it's very convenient with food outlets, cinema and supermarkets such as Cost Cutter and Tesco being near, as it means not having to go off campus. The campus itself is like a town on its own (a very internationally diverse one!).

The best thing about studying at Warwick is…

the opportunities it gives students to meet and network with some of the most respected individuals in different fields. You learn something new everyday from the people you interact with. I also appreciate how accessible and helpful the lecturers and tutors are whenever I’ve had queries.

I recently had breakfast at the library cafe and...

ordered the ‘magnificent seven’ which is good value for money as it includes so many items, including a drink, at the reasonable price of £2.95 (even cheaper than a sandwich meal deal!). It's perfect for students on-the-go, plus it keeps your appetite in check for a while so you don’t have to worry about being hungry for a while!
