The My Warwick Life feature gives an insight into staff and students’ lives at Warwick, considering both their work and social life on campus. This week we hear from Emma O'Brien, Assistant House Manager, Mead Gallery, Arts Centre.

There’s no such thing as a typical day, but, in a nutshell, my job involves…

increasing visitor numbers to the Mead gallery in Warwick Arts Centre. This means providing the best customer experience to our visitors, with great, knowledgeable and friendly staff. I'm responsible for developing the Mead shop, and work on audience-led and participation projects. My role involves marketing and developing the Mead through social networking and events, to run alongside our fabulous exhibitions programme. And I also do a little bit of Duty Management in the Arts Centre. I enjoy all aspects of my job, as I get to be creative, and come up with new ideas and plans to develop the Mead audiences and engage visitors.

I'm really enjoying working on…

ways to improve the awesome mead Knit, Stitch and Crochet Club, which is a fantastic social group of creatives, who meet regularly to share projects, skills and ideas, over knitting needles, crochet hooks and a coffee. I'm enjoying a secret project that we are working on at the moment with the knitters, to celebrate the Knit Club’s first birthday. (I can’t say too much about it at the moment, but all will become clear soon..).

Warwick's unique because…

there is so much to offer, for both staff and students. A huge, diverse Arts Centre, an extensive and impressive art collection and a fabulous sculpture trail. I'm particularly in love with the new Sculptures outside of the Arts Centre and Coventry House, by Atsuo Okamoto.

The best thing about working at Warwick is…

the great team that I work with. Warwick is a friendly place to work, and my colleagues are both caring and professional.

If I could change one thing about Warwick is would be…

free parking! And more of it please!

I recently saw Frankenstein by NTL Live! at the Arts Centre…

I don’t have too much time to see as much as I’d like to at the Arts Centre but when I get a chance I particularly enjoy the Theatre. The last thing I saw was Frankenstein by NTL Live! I really enjoy listening to people’s comments when they come out of a performance or production, when I’m on the Duty Manager shift.

I usually travel to campus by…

Car, but used to ride my bike. I will try to get back on my bike when the weather is a little warmer. Green vouchers for cyclists would be good….
