My Warwick Life: Nefe Etomi

Nefe EtomiThe My Warwick Life feature gives an insight into staff and students’ lives at Warwick, considering both their work and social life on campus. This week we hear from Nefe Etomi, third year undergraduate in Accounting and Finance.

I realised I wanted to study at Warwick when…

the league tables showed it as number 1 in Accounting and Finance (beating the London Shool of Economics)! When I came here for the open day and I got to see the beautiful campus. You never hear anything bad about Warwick, who wouldn't want to study here? I'm now in my third year and have enjoyed every single moment at Warwick since the day I arrived. I've met so many different people from different backgrounds, and I think it's great that you get to make so many friends from halls, courses, societies etc, so you always have something to do!... I'm sure not ready to leave just yet.

After finishing my degree at Warwick, I'm hoping to…

work in Deutsche Bank in London. I'm all set if I get a 2.1, so by God's grace that's the plan. But I do hope to travel and do an MBA along with a few other (fun) things at some point.

On a typical day you'll find me…

trying to attend all my lectures, which is actually not as hard as I thought it'd be In the evenings, grabbing a quick drink at terrace bar or having a meal with friends in Gusto or Xananas. And occasionally you might just find me in the gym or some exercise class. Generally speaking, once I leave my room, regardless of the time, I don't end up getting back until 9pm. There's always something to do, even if it's just catching up with friends in the library and pretending to be studying. Can't wait for summer term when I can spend my afternoons soaking up the sun in the Piazza.

I'm really glad I got involved with…

the cultural societies, Nigerian Society, This is Africa and Afro-Caribbean Society. I met so many people through them and it made One World Week even more exciting because I knew I could actively take part- practicing for at least 3 different dances, fashion show and music concert. One World Week has definitely been one of my highlights at university. Stressful as it may have been at times, I got to do all the things I love so much, and with friends.

The last event I attended was…

a networking event with people from Deutsche Bank. I enjoyed it because I got to meet people from the bank I didn't manage to meet over summer during my internship, and also have a quick catch-up with those I did meet. I also got the chance to talk to other people hoping to apply about my experience there, and seeing as I love to talk, I liked that!

I'm really enjoying working on…

various group assignments and presentations that WBS seems to love. I always tend to learn a lot from these. It doesn't just give me a better understanding of the topic, but also helps me learn how to work with people that might be very different from me, which is a skill I would most probably need when I start working.

I recently learned that…

Warwick Arts Centre is the largest arts centre in the Midlands - it never really registered before. So much goes on in the Art Centre and I don't know how or why I managed to wait till my last year to take advantage of it, but it's so great how well it's doing.

I've only just realised that…

there is apparently another costcutter on campus, in Westwood. And there's a Gibbet Hill grid. Clearly, there's some exploring I have left to do before I leave.

The thing I enjoy most about studying at Warwick is…

in my course specifically, the fact that I learn different things - we have law modules, economics modules, business modules etc. So it feels like I'm getting all-round knowledge. And as most of my friends study economics and law, I don't feel entirely lost when they're going on about stuff!

I recently went to the Arts Centre to watch…

Beauty & the Beast and Mogadishu, which were absolutely amazing! I also got to meet some of the actors and actresses of Mogadishu afterwards and they were so down to earth and hilarious. It was amazing to watch, very captivating. I loved it.

I'm a regular at the Sports Centre for…

free basketball sessions, the gym or spin and zumba classes.
