Magazines read
Given my profession, I subscribe to and read relevant Personnel Management magazines, although I would have to admit that they are not the most exciting of reads! I therefore balance them out with a good helping of celebrity gossip and am drawn to any magazine that purports to tell me who’s doing what, where and in what outfit.

Life before Warwick
I worked at King Alfred’s College for four years as a Personnel Operations Manager and then subsequently, following a year in FE, as their Job Evaluation Project Manager. I then took a career break to travel in Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and Cambodia, before coming to Warwick in September 2002.

Smartest career move
Not pursuing a career in law, but instead opting to go into personnel management. During my studies I developed a keen interest in employment law and its application in the workplace and consequently chose to pursue personnel as a career, rather than advocacy. I have never looked back.

Worst thing about working at Warwick
Not having a culture of meeting people from other departments in social situations. No informal staff bar.

People are always surprised to learn this about me, but ...
I don’t always say the first thing that comes into my head and do occasionally think before I speak!

What has life’s experience taught you so far?
Never take yourself too seriously and don’t take anything for granted, especially life.
