Warwick People - Michaela Borg

Academic Adviser in the Centre for Academic Practice.

Which means:
Amongst other things, I work as a tutor on accredited courses such as the PCAPP course for lecturers new to the university and our MA Post Compulsory Education.

Life before Warwick:
Lecturer in Applied Linguistics at Northumbria University.

Smartest career move:
Leaving the subject of my first degree (geology) and moving into teaching.

Best thing about working at Warwick:
Being surrounded by smart people.

Lifelong ambition:
To visit India - my grandfather's passion for the place, told through stories in my childhood, has stayed with me.

As a young child what did you want to be as a "grown-up"?
An archaeologist – I was fascinated by the Egyptian artefacts at my local museum.

What has life's experience taught you so far?
The importance of hard work and patience.

Major achievement to date?
My doctorate.

What do you treasure most?
Without wanting to sound too corny, my husband Erik.

If you could change one thing in the University overnight, what would it be?
The abolition of open-plan offices.

Which person inspires you most, and why?
John Dewey - he was an educationalist ahead of his time.

Your all-time favourite record or piece of music?
Louis Armstrong – 'What a Wonderful World'.

Your favourite hobby or pastime?
I enjoy photography and walking with my dogs.
