Professor Julian Gardner, from the School of Engineering, has been awarded the JJ Thomson Medal for achievements in Electronics from the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET).

He received the medal for his pioneering work on the E-nose which has enabled major advances to be made in the electrochemical detection of pollutants, gases and diseases.
