Changes to PVC Portfolios

As staff will know, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Mark Smith will be leaving Warwick at the end of December to take up a new appointment as Vice-Chancellor at Lancaster University.

The process to appoint a Deputy Vice-Chancellor will commence during the coming term. The Vice-Chancellor will assume the direct reporting line with Heads of Department until an announcement is made. However, in the interim, there will be a number of changes to PVC portfolios to ensure that the priorities and business of the University continue to be driven forward strongly during this period.

Professor Ann Caesar: Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education and Student Experience
Given the centrality of the teaching and learning agenda at this time, Professor Caesar will focus on key aspects of the education and student experience strategy including the internationalisation of the student experience, further developing interdisciplinarity and research-led learning as well as leading on the forthcoming Institutional Review.

Professor Stuart Croft: Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research (Arts and Social Sciences):
Professor Stuart Croft’s portfolio remains the same. He has responsibility for the University’s Arts and Social Sciences research strategy, including the development of research opportunities and collaborations both nationally and internationally and the raising of research income, publications and citation scores in the Faculties of Arts and Social Sciences.

Professor Margot Finn: Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Access, Widening Participation and Development
Professor Finn will also lead on the student employability and entrepreneurship strands of the strategy, picking up aspects from both Professor Caesar’s and Professor Jones’ brief.

Professor Tim Jones: Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Knowledge Transfer, Business Engagement and Research (Science and Medicine)
Professor Jones will take on responsibility for Research (Science and Medicine) whilst continuing to develop the University’s approach to knowledge transfer and innovation. He will co-chair Research Committee with Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research (Arts and Social Sciences) Professor Stuart Croft.

Professor Koen Lamberts
Professor Lamberts will be transferring portfolio to become Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Academic Resourcing. He will chair Academic Resourcing Committee, CPARG and also chair Academic Staff Committee on the Vice-Chancellor’s behalf. In addition, he will be the first point of call for chairing professorial appointment boards, although Pro-Vice-Chancellors will also be chairing electoral boards where appropriate. Professor Lamberts will also take on overall responsibility for REF planning during this period, working closely with Pro Vice-Chancellors Professor Stuart Croft and Professor Tim Jones. He will remain as Chair of Equality and Diversity Committee.

The Registrar will also pick up a number of project initiatives that Mark Smith was progressing, including the developing partnership with the University of Monash over the coming months.
