Warwick Welcome - Dr Peter Hedges

Peter HedgesThe Registrar is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Peter Hedges to be Director of Research Support Services from 1 September 2008.

A Graduate of the University of York, Peter’s background is as a biochemist. He has been with the EPSRC for some fifteen years in a number of areas including engineering, physics, information technology and planning & communications, (joining SERC, EPSRC's predecessor in 1990 on completing his PhD).

Peter is currently Head of Information & Communications Technology at the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), the UK Government's leading funding agency for research and training in engineering and the physical sciences, managing an annual research and training budget of roughly £100 million. Having previously overseen EPSRC’s Economy, Environment & Crime Programme (2006-2008), the Science Sector Team (2004-2006), Infrastructure and Environment Programme (then including Energy – 2000-2004) and Engineering Programme (1999-2000).

In terms of research scope, Peter has managed research in areas as diverse as concrete structures through to the engineering dimension of social inclusion and the prevention and detection of crime and terrorism.

Peter says:

I have worked extensively with external stakeholders, both within Government and the private sector, on the joint commissioning of research centres and consortia that address “real world” challenges. As a fairly regular visitor over the last few years I have always been impressed by the range and quality of the research at Warwick and I'm delighted to be joining the team to help build on its success. The Vision 2015 is ambitious and I firmly believe that Warwick is ideally placed to meet the challenges that it presents."

Academic Registrar, Nicola Owen, commented:

I know that Peter is looking forward to joining the Research Support Services team and I am delighted that Peter is joining the University, bringing his extensive experience to bear on the exciting research agenda here at Warwick."
