Dean of WBS is awarded higher doctorate

wbs_mark_taylorMark P Taylor, Professor of International Finance and Dean of Warwick Business School, was awarded a higher doctorate, the degree of Doctor of Science at the Summer Degree Congregation on 20 July 2012. Higher doctorates, a form of 'lifetime achievement award', are awarded to academics who have shown a considerable, original, and sustained contribution to their field of scholarship at the very highest international level. It involves the consideration of the candidate's peer-reviewed research by external assessors who are themselves of the highest academic distinction, who then make a recommendation to the University as to whether the higher doctorate should be awarded.

On receiving the award Professor Taylor said:

I am delighted to receive this recognition of academic achievement from a university that I admire greatly and which I am honoured to serve.

Professor Taylor's research on exchange rates and international financial markets has been published extensively in many of the world's leading academic and practitioner research journals and has been highly influential: as an ISI 'Highly Cited Scholar', he is one of the most highly cited researchers in finance and economics in the world. He has also held a number of senior appointments in the financial sector, including at the Bank of England, the International Monetary Fund and at the world's largest asset manager, BlackRock.

Vice-Chancellor Nigel Thrift said:

Mark Taylor’s DSc is just the latest accolade for a world-class scholar whose research on exchange rates and international financial markets has been published extensively in many leading academic and practitioner journals. Professor Taylor is one of the world’s most highly cited researchers in finance and economics, and he has also held a number of senior leadership roles inside and outside of academia. We are delighted that his latest senior role is here at the University of Warwick as Dean of Warwick Business School.
