Athena awards for all our STEMM departments

aThe latest achievement of Computer Science being awarded a Bronze Athena award now means that all of our STEMM departments have an Athena award. Only a few universities have achieved this and it is something Warwick should be very proud of.

The Athena SWAN Charter, launched in June 2005, recognises commitment to advancing women's careers in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) employment in academia.

The beliefs underpinning the Charter are:

  1. The advancement of science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine is fundamental to quality of life across the globe.
  2. It is vitally important that women are adequately represented in what has traditionally been, and is still, a male-dominated area.
  3. Science cannot reach its full potential unless it can benefit from the talents of the whole population, and until women and men can benefit equally from the opportunities it affords.

A university must achieve a bronze award before individual departments can apply in their own right. Warwick holds an Athena SWAN silver award. Find out more about the Athena SWAN awards, and view the full list of successful institutions, on the Athena Swan website.
