My Warwick Life: Luke Parry

Luke ParryThe My Warwick Life feature gives an insight into staff and students’ lives at Warwick, considering both their work and social life on campus. This week we hear from Luke Parry, Engineering student.

I realised I wanted to study at Warwick after...

visiting the first Open Day. The pleasantness of the campus surroundings, it's location and convenience was attractive, and I'd had some disappointing visits to other universities.

After finishing my degree I would like to...

definitely take a year off doing something most likely epic!

On a typical day you will find me...

running all over campus: at the Union, Library, Engineering building, busy working or even just reading in the Piazza with a cup of tea.

I am really glad I got involved with...

Warwick Athletics. I was introduced by a fellow house mate and had such a great time being regularly involved with their weekly scheduled training and other events throughout the year. I've always felt welcomed and I've met some great friends too!

It would be really useful to work more closely with...

other universities and Technical Institutes, especially in Europe, to work on large collaborative student projects within Engineering to make it both
more engaging but also improve skills working with other students outside this country.

I recently learnt that...

the University owns nearly all the green space near Cryfield Grange.

Warwick is unique because...

it offers a great location and convenience. Situated in stunning Warwickshire it's been fantastic to explore the surrounding rural landscape, whilst being
near Coventry allows quick access to Birmingham and London which has made travelling both at home and abroad easy.

The best thing about studying at Warwick is...

having a great large community of both home and international students and the sharing of different ideas and cultures makes Warwick really vibrant, especially during One World Week.

If I could change one thing about the University it would be...

having a fish and chip shop situated on campus. I find that there aren't really any really good value places to eat for the sportsman who eats their own weight in food. Bigger portions and better value for the many people who do sport, would be fantastic.

I am a regular user of the Sports Centre for...

training with Warwick Athletics and the use of swimming pool on occasion.

I usually travel to campus by...

bicycle almost exclusively, even when travelling from Leamington Spa at -16 degrees Celsius last winter. It saved me a bit of money, and often it's been enjoyable having the freedom to travel when you want and not imposed by the timetable of crowded buses.
