Energy Regulation current trends, international perspectives & future choices

The Warwick Low Carbon Society Initiative at Warwick Business School will be holding a seminar on Energy Regulation current trends, international perspectives & future choices, on Thursday 27 May 2010 from 11am to 5pm.

Governments face critical decisions in determining the appropriate regulation required to achieve important energy objectives. Security of supply, affordability and the reduction of carbon emissions are all issues with significant, long term social ramifications. Future generations in countries across the world will judge whether current regulatory decisions have met these critical goals.

This seminar follows on from the 2009 event where many of the topics discussed have now entered the wider policy‐making debate across the industry. This year’s seminar will consider how the domestic & international regulatory landscapes continue to evolve. While government action and stimuli play a critical role, we also consider the role for business in achieving the long term goals.

The seminar will be co‐chaired by:

  • Professor Martin Cave, OBE. Director of the Centre for Management under Regulation, Warwick Business School
  • David Elmes, Academic Director, Global Energy MBA, Warwick Business School

Speakers from the fields of government, business and academia will include the following:

  • Andrei Belyi, Associate Professor at Moscow State University, Higher School of Economics
  • Martin Crouch, Partner, European Strategy and Environment, Ofgem
  • Meg Gottstein, Principal, US Regulatory Assistance Project
  • Chris Harris, Head of Retail Regulation, RWE npower
