Workshop sponsored by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation as part of the Mellon-Newberry Programme 'The Spaces of the Past: Renaissance and Early Modern Cultures in Transatlantic Context.

The program includes contributions by Silvia Evangelisti, George Hoffmann, Brenda Hosington, Lyndal Roper, Robert Swanson, and Merry Wiesner-Hanks, in addition to an interdisciplinary forum run specifically for graduate students.

Topics addressed by the conference include the following:

• What were women’s experiences of belief?
• How did masculinity shape -and how was it shaped by- belief?
• What was the relation between gender and spiritual/religious writing?
