About the Institute
The Mathematics Department has 43 permanent members of staff and over 70 research students working in a variety of areas within pure and applied mathematics. The existence of a large research school provides a stimulating environment for research: graduate students learn as much from each other as from any other source. There is an abundance of seminars, and daily mathematical talk over coffee and tea in the Mathematics Institute.

| A visit to the Mathematics Institute will give you a good idea of the atmosphere of the University and the style of the mathematics we teach. Our open days are completely informal and there are no interviews. Their purpose is to give you an opportunity to meet members of staff, to ask questions about courses and campus life, and to talk to students who are already here. |
