Annual Conference: Public value and the NHS" with Derek Wanless & the AGM

The Annual Conference and the AGM of the Warwick University Health Service Partnership (WUHSP) will bring together a number of the key themes and research issues of the current partnership programme and provide an opportunity to discuss these issues in the round with a broad range of Partnership members and other interested delegates.

There are three core sessions for the day:

  • The NHS and Public Value
  • The changing roles of PCTs
  • The future of partnership working between the NHS and local government

There are two keynote addresses:

The first will be given by Derek Wanless, independent adviser to HM Treasury and author of two seminal reports on the future investment into the NHS:

I    Securing Our Future Health: Taking a Long-term View (April 2002)
II    Securing Good Health for the Whole Population: Final Report - February 2004

Later in the day there will be a second keynote address from Tony Elson, independent adviser on local government issues to the Department of Health and former Chief Executive of Kirklees Metropolitan Council.

The conference will be a mix of formal plenary sessions and round table discussions. Members of the Warwick University Health Service Partnership will lead other sessions.

The final session will be a short AGM to elect a Chairman and the Advisory Board for the ongoing work of the Partnership and an opportunity to hear some reflections from Professor Colin Crouch, the newly appointed Chairman of the Institute of Governance and Public Management at Warwick Business School.

The conference is scheduled to start with registration at 9:30am ending at 4pm. Overnight accommodation is available at Scarman House for those requiring it.
