Chemistry Lecture: New Age Fibre Crystals

Date: Thursday 24 November 2005

Time: Refreshments at 4pm, Lecture starts at 4.15pm

Venue: Physics Lecture Theatre, Science Concourse

Speaker: Philip Russell, Bath

Photonic crystal fibres are more versatile than conventional fibre-optics. They can 'corral' light using microscopic channels in so-called bandgap materials that block light. This way of handling light allows greater freedom and precision that is key to their greater effectiveness across scientific disciplines.
