Information compliance is an increasingly important legal obligation for higher education institutions. This session provides an introduction to the Data Protection Act 1998. It provides an overview of what data protection means, its application to 'personal data' an explanation of each of the 8 Data Protection Principles. It also outlines the rights and responsibilities staff have under data protection legislation. No previous knowledge of the legislation is required.
