Fashion Stories from the past to the present

Date: Saturday 27 May 2006

Time: 10:00-16:00

Venue: S1.141, Social Studies Building

Lecturer: Evy Markopoulou

Fee: £21

This dayschool will explore trends in fashion from 1700 to nowadays. Why did the outrageous headdress of Mlle de Fontanges become all the rage at the court of Louis XIV when even the King condemned it? What was the secret code of the beauty spots or the innocent fans used by the ladies of the 18th century? Why are lace, the choker and the cameo back in fashion? The dayschool will be illustrated by reproductions of paintings and fashion plates.
