Leamington Peace Festival: 17-18 June 2006

The Leamington Peace Festival will take place this year on 17 and 18 June, in a number of venues around Leamington. The Festival, which celebrated its 25th year in 2003, aims to promote peace and equality between people and nations, whilst living in harmony with the environment. The Festival is an opportunity for local artists, campaigners, community groups and Leamington people to come together to share two days of inspiration and celebration. This year, five acts from the University will take part, these are Carter Manoeuvre, Jaffa Rose, Fiona Elizabeth, Warwick Juggling Society and the Breakdancing Society.

The festival is free and features two entertainment areas, a children's tent, a workshop tent, and over one hundred stalls representing charities, religious and philosophical groups, healers, pressure groups, craftspeople, and fair traders.

Two focal points of the festival are the Bandstand and Marquee stages – where a number of local bands and artists will perform over the two days. There'll also be the chance to try your hand at salsa dancing, break dancing, belly dancing and Asian dance.

A full programme of workshops will run on both Saturday and Sunday in the Arts Tent on the Parade and a number of locations around Leamington. Global activists will give hints on how to make small changes to your lifestyle to make a big difference to the environment and vocal coaches will reveal the art of vocal harmonizing. There will also be demonstrations of tai chi and ashtanga yoga, plus the chance to learn the essentials of Indian head massage and an informal workshop into learning the basics of North American flute playing.

The children’s tent is also an important part of the festival – youngsters will have the chance to try their hand at juggling with Warwick’s Juggling Society, who will attend the festival on both Saturday and Sunday. There’ll also be face painting, Kristoff the Clown, a Buddhist Punk Poet, puppet shows and recycled kite making.
