Management and Creativity: From Creative Industries to Creative Management

Chris Bilton's BookTime: 17:30-19:30 - Wednesday 8 November

Venue: Humanities Building Room H545

Dr. Chris Bilton, Director of the MA in Creative and Media Enterprises, Centre for Cultural Policy Studies, University of Warwick, and author of the book Management and Creativity: From Creative Industries to Creative Management

This seminar will focus on the stereotypical opposition between 'creatives' and 'suits'. Creativity, according to Chris Bilton, is not just about spontaneous discovery and inspiration; it is also a self-conscious, deliberately managed process. Similarly, management is not only shaped by rational process, it also involves insights, intuition, creativity and risk. This seminar will present arguments from Dr. Bilton's recent book Management and Creativity: From Creative Industries to Creative Management, drawing on the work of management theorists and creativity theorists as well as the practical experience of individuals working in creative industries.
