The Chinese Mental Health Association (CMHA) has been running a Chinese Oral History Project for the past year. As the project draws to a close, a launch event will take place to celebrate the project and to consider future work.

Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Chinese Mental Health Association (CMHA) began the Chinese Oral History Project in October 2005. Oral history is a way to record history by interviewing people on their memories and life experiences. The main focus of this project was to bring the older and younger Chinese generations together via oral history interviews and raise awareness on Chinese culture.

The project documents and presents these experiences in an easily accessible multimedia format. It consists of a documentary, an interactive CD where information on Chinese culture can be learned, a website and an educational booklet for children that will be available in libraries for all communities.

As the project draws to a close, a launch event is due to take place on Monday 27 November at Asia House in central London.

A clip of the documentary will be shown as the Launch with guest speakers Roger Kitchen, an oral history expert and historian; and Lynette Phillips, the volunteering co-ordinator at Kingston University. Volunteers wil be there on the day to share their experiences on working on the project and there will be a chance to hear from the interviewees.
