The subject of religion has been largely neglected within cultural policy studies. Yet, religion not only features routinely in a wide range of broadly cultural governmental policy domains (education, media, censorship, public understanding of science). Perhaps more significantly, religious bodies themselves have policies of their own for shaping the culture (attitudes and behaviours) of a particular group or groups of people.

With speakers from Australia, the United States, Egypt, Turkey and the UK, this workshop will explore some very different perspectives on the relations between religion and cultural policy.
