The Future's In Our Hands: University of Warwick Wind Orchestra & local schools

Following on from the success of last year’s exciting project with schools from the local area, the University Wind Orchestra has taken on an ambitious new challenge, expanding the scope of this year’s concert to include over 250 children, all joining together to perform two very different works.

University of Warwick Wind OrchestraThe programme includes Raybould's The Future’s In Our Hands, a bright and energetic piece guaranteed to get you singing along, and the African gospel chant of Siyahamba, which also fuels the underlying theme of hope and optimism for the future.

The University of Warwick Wind Orchestra is an entirely unauditioned ensemble consisting of over 100 brass, woodwind and percussion players. Despite being open to all, the Orchestra regularly performs to a very high standard, achieving prestigious awards in the National Concert Band Festival (NCBF) Open Wind Band class for the past five years. The Wind Orchestra is one of the most active societies in the Music Centre, performing at least two concerts per term in a wide variety of locations, which last year included Coventry’s Central Methodist Hall and Memorial Park, as well as regular performances in the Butterworth Hall. The Orchestra has also performed at the University’s Gala Concerts and regularly tours abroad with the Brass Society, most recently to Germany and Belgium. The schools taking part in this year's project are Grangehurst Primary School, Longford Park School, St Benedict's Catholic Primary School and Telford Junior School. Laura Bonnett, President of Wind Orchestra, said: "We were very pleased with the success of last year’s project, and are looking forward to a bigger and better concert this year. With over four times the number of children and double the number of pieces, this promises to be an exciting challenge for all involved and an entertaining evening for friends, family and visitors."
