"Macron's honeymoon period has come to an end" - expert comment from Dr David Lees
Commenting on a day of protesting in France, Dr David Lees from the School of Modern Languages and Culture, said:
“France has a long history of revolt and rebellion. To this end there's nothing new about anti-government protests. Inevitably comparisons are made with the events of May 1968. Yet these protests mark the fiftieth anniversary of the start of those events in Nanterre.
“They also, more importantly, demonstrate that Macron's honeymoon period has come to an end. Far from being able to push through reform at whim, the French have taken to the streets in opposition, taking it upon themselves to fill the void left by the complete absence of political opposition in France.”
