Oscars academy to hold emergency talks following allegations about film mogul Harvey Weinstein - expert comment

“The allegations are appalling and the acts of which Weinstein is accused suggest how power imbalances tend to facilitate corrupt practices.

“There is much to criticise about the situation of women in the US film industry, where their participation as directors has gone down to very low numbers in recent years.

“Onscreen representations also too often foster the kind of psychosocial dynamics the accusations against Weinstein suggest still structure some people's perceptions of 'legitimate' social norms.”
