"Trump has chosen an outspoken neoconservative hardliner to serve as his National Security Advisor" - expert comment

GeorgCommenting on the news that President Trump has appointed former US envoy to the UN John Bolton as his national security adviser, Dr. Georg Löfflmann said:

"Donald Trump continues to strengthen the hardliners in his cabinet. After the dismissal of Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State and his replacement with the hawkish CIA director Mike Pompeo, Trump has chosen an outspoken neoconservative hardliner to serve as his National Security Advisor.

"John Bolton was a leading advocate of the Iraq War and stands for an aggressive unilateralism and military postering in US dealings with countries like Iran and North Korea. Bolton's disdain for the UN and undiplomatic outbursts are legendary. US allies will be concerned that the voices for moderation in the White House are becoming fewer and fewer, and that Trump is increasingly surrounding himself with advisors, who fully adopt his 'America First' foreign policy stance and support his more brash instincts and muscular posturing on the world stage."
