Why plan to drive down premiums by capping 'rampant' whiplash payouts may not be the answer

"Although all motorists would appreciate a decrease in car insurance premiums, a cut in compensation for whiplash injuries from an average of £1850 to a maximum of £425 would leave genuine victims of whiplash, caused through the negligence of the defendant driver, to be seriously under-compensated.

"Obviously, I am in favour of eliminating fraudulent insurance claims, but if genuine medical evidence of the whiplash injury can be provided, then I see no reason why the appropriate amount of compensation should not be paid."
