Father and sons keep it in the family at Warwick graduation
One of the first students to attend the University of Warwick in 1965 was back on campus to watch his youngest son, Joe graduate from the same university.
Michael Greenlees was part of the first intake into the University of Warwick and he studied Philosophy. His youngest son Joe followed in his father’s footsteps and has just graduated from Warwick with a Philosophy degree as well.
In the audience to watch Joe graduate was his brother Tom, who also came to the University of Warwick and graduated in 2007 with a degree in American History and Politics.
Joe said: “It’s a real privilege to have attended Warwick – but somewhat daunting to begin to face the real world!”
His brother Tom, who is now Head of Digital with Red Bull said: “This is my first visit to Warwick since I graduated– we’re all proud of Joe and were determined to be here to support .”
Michael, who now lives in London said: “It is fantastic that two of my sons chose to follow my lead and study here at the University of Warwick. My other son Matthew chose to study in America and graduated at Denison University with a degree in Liberal Arts. I am immensely proud of all of them.”
Michael, who is the CEO of management consultancy firm Ebiquity, was an active member of the student body during his time at Warwick and served as a lay member of the Warwick University Council until 2009.
He said: “In 1965 the University was very small with just 500 undergraduate students I believe, occupying what was then called the East Site - where the Medical School is now.
“The Student population was nevertheless very active and we attracted such star performers (as they later became) as Eric Clapton and Spencer Davies with Ginger Baker , all with Cream in those days as well as other notable but now largely forgotten local bands.”
