Ken Sloan declared Stonewall’s West Midlands Senior Champion of the Year

Ken SloanKen Sloan, Registrar and Chief Operating Officer of the University of Warwick, has just been declared the winner of the 2016 Stonewall West Midlands Senior Champion of the Year.

Stonewall’s Senior Champion award recognises the positive impact on LGBT equality within an organisation and community by a senior leader.

He was commended for his work with Warwick LGBT staff and students, and supporting and developing talent in our campus community.

Commenting on the award, Professor Pam Thomas, Chair of the University of Warwick’s Equality and Diversity Committee said:

“I am delighted and thrilled that Ken has been recognised by Stonewall for his work with Warwick and all our communities and networks. I am also pleased to see that Stonewall noted his support for the Ileostomy Association and gay men diagnosed with bowel cancer, which Ken himself battled and overcame earlier in his career.”

“Ken is a well-known and respected figure not just within the Warwick campus but across our region. During his time as Registrar he has been very actively engaged with a number of broader community initiatives such as the Partnership for Coventry and the WMG academy.”

Ken Sloan said:

"Equality and diversity is something all of us should champion wherever and whenever we have a chance to show leadership or make a difference, I am pleased to have won this award but I am even more delighted if this means I have been able to make some small difference and if I have been able to encourage others to do the same”
