LSTM & Warwick announce £3 Million collaboration in applied health research & delivery

LSTMLiverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) and the University of Warwick have established a new £3 Million collaboration that will create a joint team of 12 researchers, from a range of disciplines, to study the science, policy and economics of applied health research and delivery.

This builds on the internationally recognised and complementary strengths that already exist in the two institutions in areas including: global health, epidemiology, health economics and mathematics. Research from this collaboration will translate into cost-effective, affordable and scalable interventions for the world’s poorest populations.

Professor Janet Hemingway FRS (Director of LSTM) said:

“LSTM is a leading innovator in global health with a £268 million research portfolio. This initiative will build on LSTM’s considerable reputation and provide the springboard for larger scale interdisciplinary operational and translational research programmes that draw on the strengths of the University of Warwick. Warwick is one of the UK’s leading research universities with established expertise in cross-disciplinary areas such as epidemiology, biological sciences; systems modelling, digital healthcare, health economics and translational research.”

Professor Nigel Thrift (Vice Chancellor of the University of Warwick) said:

Research in practice“We are looking to recruit both established and potential world leaders in areas of health sciences and related disciplines that are of relevance to the mission of both institutions in global health research. This collaboration between LSTM and Warwick, draws on our complementary areas of expertise, and will provide an excellent opportunity for talented researchers to make a significant contribution to the international health agenda.”

Support for the new posts has been provided by the Wellcome Trust.
