International writer and scholar Professor Edward Said, is to give a special public lecture on Wednesday 11th July in The Ramphal Lecture Theatre, the University of Warwick at 6:30pm.

The lecture is entitled 'Moral and Intellectual Dilemmas in War and Peace: The Case of Palestine'. Professor Said, who is a renowned Palestinian-American literary critic, will also be awarded an honorary degree at one of the University's Summer Degree Congregations on the following day, Thursday 12th July at 10:30am.

One of his best known works is his book Orientalism (1978), in which he examines stereotypes about the Orient, specifically the Islamic world, and argues that Orientalist scholarship is based on Western Imperialism. Said has produced a significant volume of other works, focusing especially on the Middle East.

Photo Opportunities: There will be two photo opportunities: Before the lecture on the 11th at 6:15pm or before the degree ceremony on the 12th at 4:00pm at the rear of the Senate House Building.
