Special Conference to help Midlands Diabetics Get Chance to Shape their Future

The University of Warwick's Warwick Diabetes Care group are joining up with Diabetes UK's West Midlands region to co-host a special conference designed to offer people with diabetes, or those that live with them, the opportunity to look to the future of diabetes care.

The conference on Sat 14th September 2002 in the Clarendon Suites, Stirling road, Birmingham will give people with diabetes, an opportunity to learn about possible roles for expert patients, assess the quality of care they receive, to share experiences of living with diabetes as a patient or a carer, attend special workshops on living with an adult with diabetes, living with a younger person with diabetes and also hear a speaker on the Diabetes NSF (National Service Framework) and what it means for patients.

The main aim of the conference is unique in that it is placing the focus of diabetes care in the future on enhancing patient expertise, enabling the patient to self-manage their own diabetes. The organisers want to attract people from a range of socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds to the event. As the conference is aimed at ordinary members of the public with diabetes, and those that live with them, rather than an academic audience the cost of attending is being kept very low at £5 per person which includes lunch. Anyone wishing to attend should contact Diabetes UK for details on 01922 614500.
