University Of Warwick Hosts Largest Student Event In Europe

One World Week (OWW) hosted by University of Warwick students, is the largest student event in Europe, and from the 19th - 24th of January a myriad of cultural, social and entertainment events, as well as a celebration of international representations, will colour the campus.
In 2004 Warwick OWW continues the hugely successful One World Forum, engaging in political, cultural and social debates and discussions involving eminent personalities along with students. From geographically divided days to spirited and eventful nights, Warwick OWW combines the ethnicity, the tradition, the history and the sounds of the globe in the largest student event in Warwick's calendar.

Photo/Filming Opportunities One World Forum Events, Warwick Arts Centre Thursday 15th January 7pm-9pm The Rt. Honourable Clare Short, MP, Former Secretary for International Development, hosts a forum entitled “Reducing poverty and supporting justice: the only route to a safe and sustainable world.” Clare Short was the Secretary for International Development in the current government until May 2003 when she resigned over Britain’s policy on Iraq. A notable success of Clare Short’s time as Secretary was the initiative cancelling £600m of debt owed to Britain by the world’s poorest countries. Following her talk, the Forum will host a Q & A session.

Friday 16th January 2pm-5pm Peter Wilby, Editor of New Statesman, Martin Bell OBE and Al-Jazeera host a forum entitled “Objective information or skilled manipulation: the media in our world.” Several prominent journalists will speak on contemporary journalism.

Student’s Union Events, University of Warwick Wednesday 21st January 7pm-10pm Fashion Show - The OWW Fashion Show is a mesmerizing mix of beauty and elegance - a sexy sample of designs from all regions of the globe. The Union is transformed into a fashion mecca, as models strut down the catwalk. The Fashion Show celebrates each culture's distinctive style, from the spectacular opening, to the hugely popular beachwear section, and the stunning eveningwear finale. Collections from known labels, as well as up-and-coming designers, will be on display and stylists from Toni & Guy give models a cutting-edge look.

Saturday 24th January Starts 6pm World Party - The World Party is OWW's grand finale. Cultural, performing, and musical societies will come together on this unique night to showcase the array of talent possessed by Warwick students. This year the focus is on visual effects and futuristic designs, combined with popular performances.

Gorana Renovica, third year Economics student and Marketing Co-ordinator, said: “This year’s RnB event HOLLA features MBO award winner Lisa Mafia and Romeo of So Solid Crew fame. Warwick’s One World Week is the largest student festival of international culture in Europe. It inspires, develops appreciation for other cultures and stimulates discussion of some of the challenging topics in international affairs. The global celebration is fuelled by the enthusiasm of over 800 volunteers.”
