University of Warwick Announces New Registrar

The University of Warwick has announced today, Friday 13th February 2004, that it has appointed Mr Jon Baldwin as its new Registrar He will join the University of Warwick in early summer. His appointment follows the departure earlier this year of Warwick’s former Registrar Dr Jonathan Nicholls who left to take up the post of Registrar and Secretary at the University of Birmingham.

Jon Baldwin is currently the Secretary and Registrar of the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) – a post he has held since 2000. Previous to that he has held the post of Registrar at the University of Wolverhampton, and other senior management posts at Queen Margaret College Edinburgh; and what was then the Lancashire Polytechnic in Preston.

Throughout his career he has continued to both teach and publish on a number of themes in management and administration. He holds a first degree in Business, an MBA and is a Chartered Secretary.

He serves on a number of national bodies including: the Council of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators and, the Executive of the Association of University Administrators. He is also an Institutional Reviewer with the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education

On accepting his appointment Mr Baldwin said:

The forthcoming joining of the University and the HRI sites at Wellesbourne and Kirton, and Warwick’s recent selection to be the National Health Service University’s prime UK university partner, are just two of the most significant current developments for the University and its partners. I am looking forward immensely to playing my part in the team charged with managing this time of great change – not just for Warwick but the higher education sector as a whole”.
