Warwick Students on Catwalk for Macmillan

Originally published 6 May 2004

Students from the University of Warwick are to hold a Fashion Show featuring cutting edge clothes from Fat Face, Dorothy Perkins, Burtons, D2 and Pilot, on Monday 10th May in support of Macmillan Cancer Relief at 7.00pm in Leamington Spa Town Hall, Leamington Spa.

The student models will sashay down the catwalk to raise money for the Coventry and Warwickshire Macmillan Appeal which urgently needs to raise funds for cancer patients and their families in the local area.

Rachel Shepherd, a second year Management Science student at Warwick and Event Organiser, said: “The fashion show, run by Warwick Volunteers at the University of Warwick, features well-known brands and the most up to date fashions. It is based around a number of themes, including a beach party collection and a Charlie’s Angels theme.”

Warwick Volunteers has over 2,000 members and provides opportunities for students and staff at the University to volunteer and help disadvantaged groups in the local community. The fashion show is just one of the many projects run by Warwick Volunteers. Staff and students regularly take part in activities ranging from arts and drama to literacy and numeracy workshops to organising activities for refugee teenagers in Coventry.

The diverse projects make an immediate difference to the quality of the local environment and deliver wider benefits by tackling social concerns such as crime and anti-social behaviour, poverty, illiteracy and social exclusion.

Tickets are £4 each to include a glass of wine and can be bought in advance from Warwick Volunteers in Union Street or from the Town Hall box office. They are also available on the door at £4.50. There will also be a raffle with wonderful prizes and a tempting chocolate stall from Thornton’s.
