Maths pupils from 7 Warwickshire schools will be the first people to use the most advanced Maths research centre in the UK on its official opening day on Saturday 12th June.

The first event to be hosted by the £15.7 million building on its official opening day will be a schools mathematics workshop specially put on for local schools by University of Warwick mathematics researcher Dr Richard Lissaman. The schools attending will include: Woodway Park School, Cardinal Wiseman School, Lyng Hall School, Ernsford Grange School, King Henry VIII School, North Leamington School and Stoke Park School.

The new building comes at a particularly propitious time for the two University departments who will use it (once the school children are done!). The University’s Mathematics department is celebrating is 40th Anniversary this year and the Statistics department is celebrating its 30th anniversary.

Over 200 current and former staff and 200 mathematics and statistics graduates will gather to watch Professor Sir Christopher Zeeman FRS, the founder of the Mathematics department at Warwick, launch the new building.

The architects have made a particular effort to look at every mathematics research centre in the UK and have drawn on the best features of each to create the best purpose built mathematics and statistics research building in the country. Warwick’s Applied Maths researchers and Statistics researchers are both rated 5* by the Government’s national Research Assessment Exercise (which is the highest possible research ranking in that exercise).
