University of Warwick honours poet and past Vice-Chancellor

Two distinguished figures from the worlds of education, and literature have been honoured by the University of Warwick during its winter graduation ceremony.

Award winning poet and novelist Jackie Kay received the honorary title of Hon DLitt (Doctor of Literature) and former University of Warwick Vice-Chancellor Dr Clark Brundin was presented with a Hon LLD (Doctor of Laws), during the University's degree congregations on Wednesday 26 January. Their awards were presented alongside around 800 graduating Warwick postgraduate students in the University's Butterworth Hall

Jackie's work, which combines poetry, alternative theatre and more recently children's writing, has often drawn on some of the influences and experiences from her own background - reflecting on themes of adoption and her mixed race ancestry. Her honesty, clarity and humour as a writer have resulted in several major literary awards.

Dr Clark Brundin served as a Vice-Chancellor of Warwick between 1985-92. He presided over a period of rapid expansion and development of the university which firmly established it as one of the leading UK research institutions. This period also saw the award to Warwick of the prestigious Bertelsmann prize for the most innovative university in Europe. Dr Brundin also currently sits as a Liberal Democrat Councilor in Oxford
