A researcher specializing in how popular music is used in multi million dollar teen movies and teen television industries will be helping inspire local school pupils to consider applying to university at a special Aim Higher Summer School at the University of Warwick next week.

The Aim Higher Summer School, run by the University of Warwick and funded by HEFCE (The Higher Education Funding Council for England) will be held from Monday 1 August until Friday 5 August 2005. It is an opportunity for young people (aged 16 years and in Year 11 at school) to experience residential life as a student at one of the best universities in the UK. Students stay in halls of residence, experience lectures on a variety of subjects, eat in campus restaurants, use the Sports Centre and take part in lots of additional activities.

On the very first day of their summer school they will have a session with University of Warwick researcher Faye Woods on "Teen Movies" but they will have many other fun study opportunities including sessions entitled "The Hitchhiker's Guide to Horticulture- a study of DNA & food", "Ancient inventions to robots of the future", and 'What makes a great ruler?' - the last being led by staff at the University's Department of History.

The Summer School is for 60 children from a number of Coventry, Warwickshire, Birmingham area and other schools including from Coventry and Warwickshire: Southam College, Kenilworth School and Sports College, The Woodlands School Coventry, Whitley Abbey Community School Coventry, Stoke Park School and Community Technology College Coventry, Sidney Stringer Community Technology College Coventry.

The Birmingham area schools with pupils attending the Summer School include Sutton Coldfield Grammar School for Girls, Holte Visual and Performing Arts College, King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Girls, Small Heath School, Kings Norton Girls' School and Westwood School.
