International Manufacturing Research Alliance Launched

Today, Friday 20th January 2006, the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech), at their Nanyang campus HQ, and the University of Warwick's Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG - one of Europe's largest manufacturing research and education centres), launched a partnership to exploit the talent in both institutions.

At the signing of an MOU, at the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology's Nanyang campus HQ, between the two organisations Professor Lord Bhattacharyya, Director of WMG, said:

"The global challenge for manufacturing competitiveness means that no one institution has all the answers to the issues that manufacturers face. Working together we can leverage the undoubted skills of both our organisations".

Professor David VandeLinde, Vice Chancellor of the University of Warwick who witnessed the signing on behalf of the University said:

"SIMTech is one of the top manufacturing research centres in Asia and has a tremendous reputation for the quality of its research, this partnership is a great opportunity for both parties".

Dr Lim Ser Yong, Executive Director of SIMTech said,

"WMG is one of the foremost institutions for manufacturing research for industry. We are confident that many research opportunities will evolve as a result of this MOU".

He added, "With WMG's excellence in the automotive and aerospace sectors and SIMTech's in manufacturing processes, automation and industrial infomatics means that together we make a powerful combination the service of manuafactruing industry both in Singapore and the UK."
