On 22^nd September 2016, His Excellency Jovan Donev, the Ambassador of the Republic of Macedonia and Professor Lord Kumar Bhattacharyya, Chairman of WMG at the University of Warwick signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Macedonia and WMG at the University of Warwick, provides an initial framework through which research, education and impact activities will be designed to promote collaboration in the fields of education and research between WMG and organisations in Macedonia. Discussions were instigated by Michael English of the British Business Group Macedonia.

Initial activity areas include joint programmes, collaboration within educational and research programmes, and the provision of tailored study programmes in Macedoniafor individuals in industry and other organisations, focused around engineering and technology management and supply chains and logistics. The latter will build on the strength of WMG in designing and delivering collaborative education programmes to meet the skills needs of companies internationally and the expertise, administrative and technical capabilities in the faculties of the University Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje.

On signing the Memorandum, His Excellency, the Ambassador commented “This is a true step towards intensifying the bilateral cooperation between our two countries. I deeply believe that this example will be followed by other British and Macedonian institutions”

Professor Lord Kumar Bhattacharya commented “We are looking forward to exploring both the research and education opportunities with the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Macedonia, which will benefit both parties.”

The Republic of Macedonia

The Republic of Macedonia gained its independence peacefully after the dissolution of the former Yugoslav Federation in 1991. Currently, Macedonia is a NATO and EU candidate country since 1999, respectively 2005 and membership in these Euro-Atlantic structures are the key foreign-policy strategic priorities.

Michael J. English

Director of Crozier International Ltd. and a prominent member of the British Business Group Macedonia. He has held senior management positions in Chrysler Corporation and Cummins Engine Company. In 1995, he set up Crozier as a business development consultancy working with many automotive companies in their new international ventures, including the Middle East and Russia. In 2005, he instigated a human resource development programme in the Republic of Macedonia which led to ten years of business development in the country resulting in a major Tier OEM investment. During this period, he identified a gulf between business and education, which provides the market pull for the planned programmes delivered by WMG.
