New road name on campus honours Pro-Chancellor

In recognition of the contribution of former Pro-Chancellor, John Leighfield CBE, the University of Warwick has revealed that it is naming a road on campus after him.

‘Leighfield Road’ is now the official name for the road alongside the Cryfiled Pavillion on the South West side of campus, opposite the brand new halls of residence, Bluebell, currently being completed on the South East side, off Gibbet Hill Road.

Warwick Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nigel Thrift, said: “Despite a busy professional life, John has found time to give a long and invaluable service to the University of Warwick – as a lay member of the University Council, 1990-96 and 1997-2000 and as Pro-Chancellor and Chair of Council since 2002.

"In thinking about how we might commemorate John’s tenure at Warwick, we thought about how we might reflect his love of cartography. Hence we have decided to name a road that goes half way around campus after John, and in so doing, we are putting him permanently on the map. I cannot think of a more fitting tribute to someone who has given so much to this institution”.

This video includes personal refelctions from members of the University of Warwick community, refelcting on the contributions that John Leigfield has made to the University.
