Norwegian Deputy Ministers for Trade and Industry visit WMG

Mr Lars Jacob Hiim, and Ms. Dilek Ayhan, State Secretaries (Deputy Ministers) for Trade and Industry from the Norwegian government, Professor Lord Bhattacharyya was delighted to welcome Mr Lars Jacob Hiim, and Ms. Dilek Ayhan, State Secretaries (Deputy Ministers) for Trade and Industry from the Norwegian government, to WMG at the University of Warwick yesterday (Monday 12th September).

Also joining the Deputy Ministers was a special industry delegation focused on trade and innovation for Norway.

After meeting Lord Bhattacharyya, the visitors were given a tour of WMG’s world-class research and development facilities, including the International Manufacturing Centre (IMC) and the Energy Innovation Centre (EIC).

In the IMC, Mr Hiim and his colleagues visited the Automotive Composites Research Centre, before experiencing the 3xD Simulator for Intelligent Vehicles. Here they heard from our experts about how the team produced a special laser scan of 30 miles of Coventry roads to test driverless pods through a research project with RDM.

The delegation were also given a guided tour of the Energy Innovation Centre, learning about our research in battery characterisation, testing chambers, and electric/hybrid drives test facility. Our engineers highlighted our pioneering electric vehicle battery research.

Mr Hiim said: “We would like to thank WMG for interesting presentations and an interesting tour. The Norwegian government are working on a White Paper on the industry's future conditions at the moment. We are also experiencing a considerable demand from various industry sectors for easy access to testable facilities. We are therefore interested in learning more from our neighboring countries, and, so far, our study trip to the UK has been very useful.”

Professor Lord Bhattacharyya comments: “It was a great pleasure to introduce Mr Hiim and his colleagues to our team of experts, and for them to see first-hand the innovative research projects we are working on.”
